LIONELL CUMMINGS

 

Lionell Cummings was bom on December 6, 1947 to Mr. & Mrs. Alex Cummings Sr. in Monroe , Louisiana . He received his formal education in the City School system and graduated from Carroll High School .

In 1968 Lionell enlisted in the United States Air Force. After basic training and technical school, he was assigned to Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma . While in the Air Force he served tours in Vietnam , Japan and Spain . He also served temporary duty in Greece , Korea , Thailand , Cambodia , Germany , Italy , Turkey , Philippines and England . His military decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal With four Oak Leaf Clusters and the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired after 22 years of dedicated service.

In 1975 Lionell joined Cherry Blossom Lodge #42 while stationed in Japan .

He was appointed Senior Stewart and later appointed Senior Deacon. During October 1977 he became a member of Keystone Consistory and a member of Obelisk Temple #187 AEAONMS. During a tour in Spain , he affiliated with Stonemons Lodge #27. Cummings was elected to Senior Warden and then to Worshipful Master of that lodge.

Lionell Cummings came to Denver in 1990 and affiliated with Daniel "Chappie" James Jr. Military Lodge #27. He has served on many committees and is a permanent fixture at all meetings of the lodge. He joined Mountain and Plains Consistory #33 and has served as Recording Secretary, Trice Potent Master, Most Wise and Perfect Master, First Lt. Commander and Commander In Chief. He received his 33rd in 1999.

He has worked in the Grand Lodge since coming to Colorado . He has served as Aid De Camp, Grand State of the Nation, Grand Senior Deacon (10 years), Grand Lecturer, Grand Junior Warden and presently serving as Grand Senior Warden.

Brother Cummings has been married to his lovely bride for 40 years. They have one daughter, Maria Darcell Pierce and 2 Grandsons, David 18, and Antyon 16.
